Kelley and Alex
Songs from around the world for soprano and tuned percussion, with Kelley Lonergan.
Alex and soprano Kelley Lonergan have devised an eclectic programme that visits all four corners of the globe. Favourites and lesser-known works from the song and opera repertoire are reimagined, accompanied by a variety of tuned percussion instruments.
Voice and percussion might not seem an obvious pairing, but tuned instruments like the marimba and vibraphone draw out colours and aspects of the music that can otherwise go unnoticed.
The programme can include:
- Five Popular Greek Folk Songs – Maurice Ravel
- Seven Spanish Folk Songs – Manuel de Falla
- Mandoline – Gabriel Fauré
- L'Heure Exquise – Reynaldo Hahn
- A Vucchella – Paolo Tosti
- Canto Negro – Xavier Montsalvatge
- My Lagan Love – arranged by Hamilton Harty
…and many more.
