I'm an Irish percussionist and composer of Romanian origin, based in Cork, where I'm assistant lecturer in percussion at the MTU Cork School of Music. Most of my playing is in new music: I'm a core member of Crash Ensemble, Ireland's foremost contemporary music ensemble, musical director of the Bangers and Crash Percussion Group, and half of a long-running duo with violist Nathan Sherman. I also play regularly with orchestras around Ireland, including the National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Irish Chamber Orchestra.

I love working with composers, and I've commissioned and premiered a lot of new music. With Nathan that includes a major work by Kevin Volans, y Escucho a los Muertos con mis Ojos, which we premiered at Music for Galway in 2025, and our albums Totemic (Ergodos) and Archetypes (Diatribe). My solo album In Time was released on RTÉ lyric fm. With Crash I've played on most of the ensemble's albums, including Barry O'Halpin's Wingform, and I'm the soloist in Dónal Sarsfield's The Snare Piece on Free State.

I also write for percussion. My pieces include two percussion sextets, premiered at Cork Midsummer Festival and on a tour of Ireland with Bangers and Crash, and the trio Cross | Paths, supported by an Arts Council bursary and Music Network.

I won the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year in 2013 and was the National Concert Hall's Rising Star in 2015. Before all of this I studied physics, and hold a BSc and MSc from University College Cork as well as an MA in performance from the Cork School of Music.

Teaching and workshops

I'm assistant lecturer in percussion at the MTU Cork School of Music, and teaching is a big part of what I do.

Beyond the Cork School of Music, I've given lecture recitals at Ireland's universities and workshops for West Cork Music's Tuning Up outreach scheme, Music Network, the ESB and more.

With Bangers and Crash I run fun, interactive workshops for schools, tailored to any age group. Pupils meet more than 30 instruments from all over the world and learn where they come from, use their own bodies as percussion instruments, hear how percussion works in the orchestra and in film and cartoon music, and learn the basics of playing together through games and exercises.

“The group showed us a wide variety of percussion instruments and played beautiful sounds and music for us. Percussion instruments were explained and there was direct participation by the children, a lovely time was had by all.”
